Konstig Design is a combined design and artistic company run by the Swedish artist Emma Sjödin. Her ambition is to bring art in to everyday life through her artistic interior design products. Emma applies motifs from her own art work to a variety of products for the home. Examples of these are: kitchen towels, dish cloth, coasters, trays, placemats, heat mats and pillowcases. The goal is to create durable and quality products and to use as many natural/organic materials as possible such as birchwood. All products are made in Sweden.
Emma´s inspiration comes from detailed plants and bugs. Examples of these can be autumn leaves, dragonflies, geraniums, grasshoppers and sea shells. She never renders the subject completely realistically, instead finding inspiration in creating her own reality. Emma´s techniques are foremost built on pencil drawing and watercolour painting. These traditional ways of working are then combined and mixed with graphic design to create contrasts and to improve usability. Emma’s previous experience includes years as a freelance illustrator, Art teacher education and Graphic design and Illustration at RMI-Berghs.
PRODUCTS
GERANIUM collection
The illustration featured in this series comes from a pencil drawing of a Swedish geranium. Available in two colours, the products in this series are: high quality kitchen towels in half linen, dishwasher friendly trays in birch in three sizes and machine washable (90 degrees) dish cloth, heat mats/cutting boards and wall decoration 200x150cm, 150x105cm, 100x70cm.
GRASSHOPPER collection
The illustration feature grasshoppers and dried cow parsley. The colours are inverted on the reverse to allow for greater usability. Products available in this series are: heat mats, coasters in birch and machine washable (90 degrees) dish cloth.
DRAGONFLY collection
The illustration feature dragonflies and dried cow parsley. The colours are inverted on the reverse to allow for greater usability. Products available in this series are: heat mats, coasters in birch and machine washable (90 degrees) dish cloth.
BEETLE collection
The illustration feature beetles and dried cow parsley. The colours are inverted on the reverse to allow for greater usability. Products available in this series are: heat mats, coasters in birch and machine washable (90 degrees) dish cloth.
MAPLE AND ASHLEAF collection
The illustration featured in this series comes from a watercolour painting of two of autumn´s most beatiful leaves. Products available in this series are: dishwasher friendly trays in birch, heat mats, coasters in birch and laminated placemats.
BEETLE ON LEAVES collection
The illustration featured in this series comes from a watercolour painting/drawing of a beetle on an autumn leaf. One side of the heat mat and coasters is a monochrome illustration and the other is in watercolour. Products available in this series are: heat mats, coasters in birch and glassclocks for the wall.
SEASHELL collection
The illustration in this series features a coloured pencil drawing of sea shells arranged in a still life. Products available in this series are: dishwasher friendly narrow tray in birch, high quality kitchen towels in half linen and coasters in birch
KUBONG collection
The illustration feature in this series is taken from a water colour painting of a sea shell. Products available in this series are: pillowcases, dishwasher friendly trays in birch in two sizes, heat mats, coasters in birch and laminated place mats.
